No School--Monday, February 19

February 16, 2018

There will be no school on Monday, February 19 in observance of Presidents' Day.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 20.

A Special Note from the Superintendent:

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who had a part in providing assistance during the bomb threat at Bethlehem yesterday.  The administration, faculty, and staff are to be commended for their professionalism, organization, and concern for students throughout the day’s events.  I appreciate the quick response from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department, Dothan Police Department bomb squad, and other area first responders.  Special gratitude is extended to Carmel Assembly of God and their staff for their willingness to open their doors to us as the relocation site.  I also appreciate the many community members who volunteered at the church.   Parents, thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout the day, especially during the sign-out process.  The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and at the end of the day, every student was safe and accounted for and home with their families.  I am thankful to be part of such a wonderful school system and community that puts children first!

Sincerely,

Terry L. Mears, Superintendent

At approximately 7:00 pm last night (Tuesday, February 6) the Holmes County Sheriff's Office communications center received a call from a parent of a Holmes County High School (HCHS) student. The parent stated that a male student at school had told her daughter he was going to shoot up the school tomorrow (Wednesday), and for her not to come to school.

Investigators responded to the complainant’s residence and met with her and obtained a statement and details regarding the conversation.

Investigators then went to the suspected student’s residence that made the threat and spoke with him.  Based on the information provided and the seriousness of the threats, the student was arrested and charged.

The student has been suspended from school by Holmes District Schools and WILL NOT be at school until further notice. For precautionary reasons, extra deputies will be on campus at HCHS today to ensure the safety of the students and staff.

Florida Youth Survey Results

February 7, 2018

Parents/guardians interested in seeing state-wide results from the Florida Youth Survey can view the results by clicking the Related Files links below.  This voluntary and anonymous survey was conducted in Spring 2017 and collects responses relating to tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, as well as other risky behaviors of our youth. Specific schools cannot, nor can your child’s responses, be identified but it may be helpful for you to see how middle school and high school students responded throughout the state.

More information about the survey can be found at http://www.floridahealth.gov/statistics-and-data/survey-data/florida-youth-survey/index.html

The 2015-16 School Public Accountability Reports (SPAR) have been posted on the Florida Department of Education’s website:  http://doeweb-prd.doe.state.fl.us/eds/nclbspar/index.cfm

The SPAR contains data that provides parents and community members information about the progress of each school.  Due to the length of the report we are unable to send copies home with each student.  However if you would like a copy,  the reports will be made available at the front desk of each school.
