There will be no school on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Tuesday, May 31 will be the last day of school and an early release day. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer!
HCHS Main Entrance Closing Due to Construction

Effective June 1, 2016 until further notice, the Hwy. 90 entrance to Holmes County High School will be closed due to new construction. All traffic should enter the school from Sandpath Road. A temporary reception area will be established in the Agriculture Education area. Once you enter the school grounds, there will be signs directing you to this temporary reception area. Anyone entering the school will need to report to the temporary reception area for assistance. Thank you for your patience during this time.
3rd Grade FSA ELA Scores Released

Congratulations to our 3rd grade students and teachers on their outstanding scores on the ELA portion of the Florida Standards Assessments! Superintendent Eddie Dixon stated, “We are very pleased with the 2016 3rd Grade ELA FSA Results. 55% of our 3rd graders scored level 3 or above. This represents a 25% increase over the previous year and the third largest increase in Florida. Results like these are due to students, teachers, administrators, and parents working hard together.”
Bonifay Middle School Presents Shrek Jr.

The Drama Department of Bonifay Middle School will present Shrek Jr. on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. each evening. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.

President Obama has issued a letter from the US Department of Justice and Department of Education relating to transgender rights. Holmes County Schools will NOT prescribe to the directions of the memo. This is NOT a change in law and we as a school district will NOT change our practices or policies that are currently in place. Providing a safe and secure learning environment for ALL students has always been and will continue to be our top priority in decision making. Should concerns be expressed by students, parents, or colleagues please assure them there are NO CHANGES nor any being planned in Holmes County School District’s policies or procedures. Please refer any questions to the District Office or me.
This overreach of President Obama and the Federal Government is troubling to me as a local School Superintendent. I am startled by the process and procedure utilized. I feel confident Governor Scott and our Florida Legislators will support Florida Educators in this issue.

Summer VPK at Bonifay Elementary School

Summer VPK for children who did not participate in a school year program will be offered June 6-July 28 at Bonifay Elementary School. Click on the "Related Files" link below for a flyer containing more information.
The Bethlehem Drama Department will present Disney's Alice in Wonderland on Friday, May 13; Saturday, May 14; Monday, May 16; and Tuesday, May 17. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. each night. Tickets are $5 each and are available at the door. For the Friday night performance ONLY, show your FFA/FBLA steak dinner ticket and receive $1 off admission.

Overview
IDEA, Part B – Entitlement – These funds are allocated for the support of special projects which will contribute to the solution of persisting state-wide needs in the education of exceptional students.
IDEA, Part B – Preschool Entitlement - These funds are allocated to provide special education and related services to handicapped children aged three through five.
Title I – Part A (Title I Basic) program provides services to help schools with high concentrations of students from low-income families be able to offer high-quality education that will enable all children to meet, at a minimum, proficiency levels on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.
Title I – Part C - These funds are allocated to provide services to migratory students who are failing or at risk of failing to meet the State’s challenging content and academic achievement standards and whose education has been interrupted during the regular school year.
Title II, Part A – Teacher and Principal Training/Recruiting –This program’s purpose is to improve teacher and principal quality and increase the number of highly qualified teachers and principals.
Title III Part A – This program is for limited English proficient students and is tailored to individual student needs. The program uses either English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or home language instructional strategies.
Title IV Part B-21st Century Community Learning Centers-This program provides after-school and summer enrichment programs for students.
Title VI, Part B, Subpart 2 – Rural Education Achievement Program – These funds are allocated to provide additional support to rural or low income districts.

Holmes County High School will be presenting Disney's "The Little Mermaid" on Monday, May 9; Tuesday, May 10; and Thursday, May 12. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the play begins at 7:00 each night. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
Public Hearing--ESE Policies and Procedures

The Holmes District School Board will be adopting and revising Exceptional Student Education Policies and Procedures. A hearing for the public will be held at 5:00 p.m. on May 10, 2016 for input on proposed changes at the Holmes District School Board office. A copy of the policies to be adopted or revised may be reviewed at the Holmes District School Board office Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. except for advertised holidays.
